The Golden Reunion Planning Committee met on Saturday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Carol's house. Those in attendance were: Susan Glanz, Norma Wetzel, Sonny Morper (took this picture), Jack Dawes, Liz Green, Diane George, Frances Francois, Beth Ott, Bill Cadwallader, Willie Horton, Thomas Meschack, Katy Lux & Carol Perkins.

We had a really productive meeting today. The working lunch included stuffing, addressing, & stamping our letter to the classmates who don't have e-mail and who now can contribute their information for the directory via snail mail. Thank you, Susan & Norma, for all your work on our mailings.  We'll have one more "mailing" AFTER the reunion when Sonny completes the DVD he has been putting together. We enjoyed previewing the "first draft" of the DVD while we ate our sandwiches and the delicious baked treats Liz and Katy provided.  Sonny has spent hours photographing local street signs, city life, and the now-extinct beautiful elementary and junior high schools we all went to (he used the SD City School District's archives for those pictures).

Treasurer's report: We are safely solvent with some 150 reservations for the dinner-dance, 125 Friday reception reservations, and about 120 picnic reservations. The Bahia informed Frances that 34 rooms have been reserved for Saturday night; both Friday and Sunday nights have reservations, too, so we have no problem meeting our guaranteed 35 rooms.

We discussed menus & food choices. Contrary to our earlier decision, we switched our loyalties to the buffet. The variety is better for vegetarian choices and salad choices. We also agreed that going through the buffet line gives us the opportunity to visit with people we otherwise might not see at the reunion. Frances will continue to confer with Bahia personnel; she and Diane will visit the Bahia to firm up the Friday and Saturday food decisions, and, probably, to do some taste-testing.

The directory:  Jack Dawes to the rescue. Jack has researched the costs and the creation of the templates for our directory. The FIRM deadline for submitting copy is September 10. Carol will compile the auxiliary pages: the schedule of the reunion weekend events, program for the Saturday dinner-dance, acknowledgments, "In Memoriam" page, etc. We will include the words to the Alma Mater. The cover will be composed of Carlos Hadaway's artwork and SDHS photos.



Fund raising:  T-shirts, like the ones the committee sold for the 35th reunion, will be ordered. Jimmy Carter is in charge of this project.
Beth & Katy are coordinating the silent auction/opportunity drawing baskets. They are looking for donations for theme baskets: golf stuff, a San Diego basket, a basket for grandparents (kids' stuff), restaurant gift cards, other services/tickets to theaters and other venues. An appeal for contributions has been e-mailed to everyone who has e-mail.


The Alumni Office sells sweatshirts and other SDHS paraphernalia which we may want to sell along with our t-shirts. The volunteers from other classes could handle these sales.

Table decorations: Liz has new artwork from Carlos Hadaway, a "Cavebelle" to complement his original Caveman for the bottle labels she is making.



We are reminding ourselves to continue contacting people who haven't yet made their reservations. Please make phone calls if you have a friend who isn't yet on the reunion goers list! Marci Paraiso Heider has been helpful in contacting siblings of our classmates on the "missing list." If you know any other siblings of missing classmates, PLEASE contact them.

The Golden Reunion of the San Diego High School Class of 1960 is scheduled for October 22-24, 2010
in San Diego at the Bahia Resort Hotel on Mission Bay.

These sample quilts (or wall hangings) will be similar to the donations received from classmates and businesses who contribute items and other prizes for the silent auction to take place at the class reunion. Classmates who have contributions should make them known to the reunion committee as soon as possible. (see email contact on the left) Many thanks to Jeannie Ramsey for providing these pictures and her offer to donate to the silent auction.





According to Jeannie, “The "model" is my granddaughter Haleigh for whom that quilt was made after SHE picked out the fabric and pattern.”

Johnny Lopez and Thomas Meshack are helping to pull together some pictures for a SDHS1960 Reunion DVD that is being prepared for the Class of 1960. Class members are urged to send pictures they have as soon as possible to be included on the DVD (elementary, junior high and SDHS photographs of events, friends, etc.) by email to Sonny Morper.
